Changes to my major.

Hi readers, today I´m going to talk about the program of architecture and some things I would like to improve.

About the study program I think are good in general, because had balance between teorics class and workshops. Maybe I add more visits, because are good moments to learn and make social life.

The infrastructure of FAU is the most deficient point, and I would like the university change that in the future.

Firstly, FAU isn´t inclusive, the faculty don´t have access ramps to classrooms and I found useless the new elevator, because the second floor isn’t enabled to people with reduced mobility. At the moment the university has been inefficient to improve the accessibility, it´s funny because in class teach us about the importance of making public spaces inclusive and our faculty isn’t.

Equally important as the previous point is making FAU more prepared for rainy days. Whit rain, the experience of travelling in FAU make worst, because the faculty had few covered spaces, so when you leave the classrooms, you get wet.

Another thing of infrastructure I would like to improve is the spaces destined to work. Desing and Architecture are two major their need a big space to work, with electrical outlets, tables with cutting mats and covered, but in FAU is difficult to use these spaces because there are few.

Finally, I had a good experience at the university. The people in FAU are amazing and are the best thing of the university. I met a good teachers and classmates who making my experience unforgettable, and obviously I learn a lot these 2 years studying architecture.

That all, see ya in the comments.

Travel in time ¿past or future?

Personally I´m not sure If I prefer travel to past or the future, because I think both options have good and bad reason to be chose.

First, travel to past is interesting because I would like to know more about the history of the world. Maybe I can resolve some of the biggest mysteries of the humanity, like the born of God, how populated America, etc. I like to know different cultures in the history and live with them, like Greeks, Romans, Mayans, Aztects, etc… Or I could visit the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World in them splendor… But travel in past can be a bad option if I can´t travel back to the present.

On the other hand, if I travel to future, I would like know the new technology, and if humanity resolve the biggest problems of the present, like climate change. Maybe I can´t imagine how be the world in the future, but what happen if the future is bad… I prefer don’t have the knowledge about that.

So, I prefer to live my present, and live without the knowledge about the future or the risk to travel to past. Maybe is the boring option… but I like the period of time I live, I think is a good period of time to dream with a better future, learning with the fails of the past.

A question I don´t like to answer

 My favorite job…

First of all, I chose my major because have a lot of work field, and I not sure about what is my dream job yet. In this point of my life, I can see me work in something related to my major, but I not sure in what area. An architect can work in a lot of places, for example in a municipality like assessor in the urbanism area, in an office of architectural, in MOP or MINVU, and even in a design job.

At the moment, I like work in an office of architectural. Usually, an office of architectural make projects for public competitions, in a charge of MOP. I like this work because I interview an architect who leader an office and he showed me his office and the work they do every day. One of things I most remember is the way of he talks about him job, with a lot of enthusiasm and desire to create and improve people's lives. I like to be like him in the future, with enthusiasm no matter what in I work.

Another place I like to work is for some public service, like MOP or MINVU. One of my favorites areas of architecture are urbanism, because is one of the areas can directly affect people´s lives. I interest in this work because I live in the outskirts, and a lot of the problems could be solved with good planning.

Finally, the salary of an architect it around 100.000.000 CLP, but all depends in what area you working.

That all, see ya in the comments

Best Holidays in the South

I think my best holidays were in January 2019. I travel with my parents, older brother, cousins and uncles to Coñaripe. It is small town is located in the south of Chile, in the Region de Los Lagos, to 1000 km aprox from Santiago de Chile. That holidays were my favorite because is the first time I went with my family to a place so far form Santiago.  Usually we go to Litoral Central, but in that occasion was different.

We stayed in Coñaripe like 10 days, in a cottage in the outskirts of the town. About the activities we did here the most enjoyable was visiting the Parque Nacional Villarica. Here I walked in ancient forest, surrounded by volcanos, lengas and araucarias with miles of years. The experience of walk here can´t be described, I hope everyone can live it once in your life. Also, we did other activities, like swiming in the Lago Coñaripe and Pellaifa, visiting the Parque del Agua Potable and traveling to Lican Ray for a day.

Finally, the South of Chile is my favorite part of my country, its magical and full of life, but I don´t live there… I am a city person.

What about us? I see ya in the comments.

A country I like to visit

Since I was little, I never liked travelling, but I never I go outside of Chile. I´m a person who really love to go out, for example going to the cinema, walking in the city, visiting tourist places or going to various cultural activities. But, answering the question, if I had to choose a country to travel to, I think I´d choose Spain.

I don´t know a lot about Spain, but I know is a country with a lot of history and culture, and more important of that, in Spain they speak Spanish. I would like study architecture here, and I hope I can in the future, because this country had some of the best universities to study my mayor. One of these universities, where I would love study, are the Universidad Politécnica de Barcelona, or the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Other of the reason I choose Spain is for they architecture. I would like to visit some places here, for example Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Cripta Guell, Rascainfiernos, Plaza Mayor, Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España, Palacio Real de Madrid, Matadero de Madrid and other sites.

Finally, I think go to Spain can be a big opportunity to meet people and grow as a person.

See ya next week :)

The question I have been asked the most since I entered university

When I was a kid, I want to become in a Paleontologist, but as years pass this dream vanished. In the school I like math’s and Sciences, but I was great for everything, even arts o music. So, in the moment of apply to university I asked me what it was I really like it.

When I finished high school, my options of careers were Design, Archeology, Geology, Audiovisual direction, Advertising and Architecture, very varied options. Finally, I decided Architecture because it was the only one mixes math´s and arts and have high employability (Audiovisual direction is what I want, but is far from science and I would die unemployed probably :l)

Now I happy with my choice. My experience at the university is great, it is really challenging and I meet nice people (and others no so much). I think I love my career because I can stay up late and don’t eat very well and still happy to learn new things in class.

The future is uncertain, in this moment I don’t know what I going to work, but I will be happy in what I do.

PD: The pictures is differents moments in the career.

Who am I?

Mi name is Benjamín Aránguiz Castañón. I was born on March 5 of 2003, in a hospital called Sotero del Rio. Actually I´m 20 years old, and I curse third semester of Architecture in the Universidad de Chile.

All my life I live in Puente Alto, a big commune in the periphery of Santiago. I live with my parents, Monica and Juan, my brother Vicente and him dog. My parents live the most part of their life in Puente Alto, and both have brothers and sisters. I´m very close to my cousins, I grew with them.

I love reading, actually I read “Klara and the Sun” of Kazuo Ishiguro. This year I decide read more about Japanese autors, because I want know about Asiatic Literature. For he same motive I read Haruki Murakami Books, but I not a big fan.  Also I read books for Chilean autors, and my favorite is Pedro Lemebel, him book called “Tengo miedo Torero” is one of my favorite books in the world. For many time only read terror books, in specific Stephen King books, but I wouldn´t be a reader who only read one autor. I really love see movies too, but I dont have many time for see them.

See you in the coments :)
